The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is seeking a full-time Program Manager/Senior Program Manager - Trade & Investment to run its Business Asia research pillar. As part of six research pillars, Business Asia analyzes key economic trends in trade, investment, and global value-chains that matter to Canada and the Asia Pacific. Also, key to the pillar is APF Canada Investment Monitor, which captures, visualizes, and analyzes Canada's investment relations with the Asia Pacific.


The Program Manager/Senior Program Manager for Business Asia is responsible for developing and conducting a research program on Canada-Asia trade and economic relations,  writing policy papers, reports, background materials, briefings, building datasets, and participating in consultations. The Program Manager/Senior Program Manager is also responsible for forming partnerships in related research areas, including monitoring and evaluating programs. The position will report to the Vice-President, Research & Strategy, and is based at APF Canada's Vancouver office.

 Successful applicants will have the following qualifications:


  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in related fields such as Political Science, Political Economy, Economics.
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills – experience in data analytics will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3-to-5 years previous work in government, think tanks, research organizations, or journalism.
  • Experience working on trade and investment – knowledge of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues will be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in French and/or an Asian language will be considered an asset.

 

Program Manager Major Responsibilities:

 

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively to support the foundation's work and will engage in the following activities:

 

  • Developing the direction and focus of research projects within the Business Asia research pillar.
  • Managing research and policy work related to this program.
  • Developing and managing budgets, reporting, and action planning.
  • Preparing analytical reports and briefing materials on issues related to trade and investment in the Asia Pacific region pertinent for Canada.
  • Managing the Investment Monitor (https://investmentmonitor.ca/).
  • Coordinating and facilitating meetings, consultations, and partnership events in collaboration with the Events team.
  • Fostering funding and research partnerships to support work in the research area.
  • Contributing to the Asia Watch newsletter.
  • Performing other duties as required to meet the needs of the role in relation to organizational goals.

 

Eligibility

 

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and have completed a graduate degree (Master or Ph.D.). The successful applicant will ideally work out of Vancouver, BC, partly remotely and partly from APF Canada's head office in downtown Vancouver, Monday to Friday, during regular office hours for five days a week. Please note, on-site work expectations will vary due to COVID-19.

 

Compensation

 

The total rewards package will include a base salary commensurate with experience and level of expertise subject to APF Canada's salary band, eligibility for a Pay for Performance Bonus Program, a comprehensive extended health benefits package, including but not limited to vision and dental care, paramedical services, telemedicine, Family & Employee Assistance Program, option for a contributory Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) upon completion of six months probation and flexible hybrid and remote work arrangement with a diverse team environment.
